Very Demure, Very Mindful
A makeup-for-work joke turned “very demure, very mindful” into the internet’s most politely unserious sentence.
The original is off-site. HAHrchives preserves the story and a route back to it.
What happened
Users started narrating office rituals, travel plans, snack choices, red carpets, and completely undemure behavior in Lebron’s mock-serious vocabulary. The joke worked because every use could be both sincere and a little bit camp.
Where it came from
Chicago creator Jools Lebron posted a TikTok in August 2024 joking about a deliberately “demure” look for work. Her exaggerated rulebook—mindful, cutesy, not too much—gave people a phrase built for applying to everything.
Why it mattered
“Very demure” is a compact example of platform language at its best: a specific creator’s comic delivery becoming a flexible shared bit—while still pointing people back to the person who made it.
How it spread
The original sound and its variations raced across TikTok and into celebrity, brand, and institutional posts. Lebron remained visible as the creator rather than becoming an anonymous sound detached from its source.
