Trogdor the Burninator

A drawing lesson went wrong, grew one beefy arm, and somehow turned “thatched-roof cottages” into a battle cry.

The original is off-site. HAHrchives preserves the story and a route back to it.

What happened

Asked to draw a dragon, Strong Bad supplies a crooked S, wings, a single muscular arm, and a fire-breathing monster that burninates peasants and their thatched-roof cottages.

Where it came from

Trogdor debuted in Homestar Runner’s Strong Bad Email #58, “dragon,” released January 13, 2003. Strong Bad’s mock drawing tutorial creates the lopsided dragon, then ends with the improvised heavy-metal “Trogdor” sequence.

Why it mattered

Trogdor shows how Homestar Runner could turn a throwaway drawing gag into a portable piece of web mythology: a visual, a voice, and a chorus that fans could carry elsewhere.

How it spread

The character escaped one Flash email through fan art, quotes, games, music references, and later appearances well beyond the original cartoon page.
