The short recasts Link’s familiar green-tunic adventure as a compact cartoon spoof, leaning on recognizable Zelda imagery and exaggerated heroic posing rather than a serious retelling.

Newgrounds creator Granfaloon uploaded The Real Legend on December 16, 2003 as an Ocarina of Time parody.
Why it mattered
The Real Legend is a clean example of early-web game comedy: a fan creator could turn a shared console vocabulary into a short, legible joke and find a mass audience on a single animation portal.
How it spread
Newgrounds featured it the next day, placing the cartoon in the site’s high-traffic Flash-video circuit. Its more than two million recorded views show how game parodies could travel through portal culture before video platforms centralized discovery.
