What happened
Morris stared straight into her webcam while singing exaggerated possessive lyrics. Viewers on Reddit pulled a frame, added captions about comically overbearing romance, and gave the character a name that quickly outran the original upload.
Where it came from
Laina Morris uploaded “JB Fanvideo” to her YouTube channel in June 2012 as a deliberately creepy parody for a Justin Bieber “Girlfriend” contest. The character was a joke; a screenshot from the video became the template.
Why it mattered
Overly Attached Girlfriend is a useful snapshot of the image-macro web: a creator made a specific performance, then the public converted a single frame into a shared writing prompt.
