Where it came from
Gary Brolsma uploaded his lip-sync to O-Zone’s “Dragostea Din Tei” to Newgrounds on December 6, 2004, under the name GMan250.
Why it mattered
Numa Numa is an early internet joy artifact: awkwardness was not a barrier to fame; it was the entire point. It taught the web to celebrate people being sincerely weird on camera.
How it spread
The video became a fixture of early blogs, message boards, and mainstream television, demonstrating how a webcam performance could become mass culture before creator platforms were mature.
