What happened
A cheerful home-baking pitch starts with muffins and keeps unveiling increasingly deranged flavor ideas, delivered with the sweet sincerity of a kitchen commercial that has gone completely off the rails.
Where it came from
Comedian Liam Kyle Sullivan uploaded “Muffins,” performed through his character Mother Grandma, to his creator-controlled YouTube channel in 2007.
Why it mattered
Muffins is the perfect early creator-comedy artifact: one performer, one extremely specific character, a tiny musical premise, and a joke sturdy enough to remain funny once everyone knew the chorus.
How it spread
The clip became a widely shared early-YouTube quote machine alongside Sullivan’s other character videos. “Muffins” and its deliberately chipper sales pitch traveled through message boards, blogs, and forwarded links.
