Kermit Sipping Tea

Kermit took one sip of iced tea, and the whole internet learned to mind its own business very loudly.

The original is off-site. HAHrchives preserves the story and a route back to it.

What happened

Kermit sat calmly with a Lipton cup while the caption did the judging. The format let people call out hypocrisy, bad decisions, or everyday nonsense and then pretend they had not said anything at all.

Where it came from

The tea-sipping Kermit image came from Lipton’s 2014 “Be More Tea” campaign with the Muppets. Captioned versions spread through Instagram and Tumblr that summer, adding a pointed observation followed by “but that’s none of my business.”

Why it mattered

Kermit Sipping Tea is a clean little bridge between the image-macro web and the reaction-image web. Its joke is not the character alone; it is the social performance of saying something pointed, then theatrically declining to get involved.

How it spread

The still traveled through Instagram accounts, Tumblr blogs, Twitter, and screenshot culture. The line became useful shorthand even when Kermit was no longer visible: a tiny disclaimer after an enormous amount of shade.
