2022 / Video / Creator-approved interview remix and TikTok earworm
It’s Corn (Corn Kid)
A kid’s perfect explanation of corn became a pop song because, frankly, it has the juice.
The original is off-site. HAHrchives preserves the story and a route back to it.
What happened
Tariq’s earnest corn review already had its own tiny internal logic: butter changed everything, corn was beautiful, and not everyone had to like it. The Songify version treated that logic with maximal pop seriousness, building a cheerful earworm around every phrase the interview had generously supplied.
Where it came from
Recess Therapy published Julian Shapiro-Barnum’s August 2022 interview with Tariq, whose wholehearted case for corn included “a big lump with knobs” and the declaration that it had the juice. The Gregory Brothers then turned the interview into an official Songify collaboration with Tariq and Recess Therapy.
Why it mattered
It’s Corn earns its spot because the joke remained kind to the person at its center. Tariq’s joy is the whole point, and the music collaboration gave him a credited, royalty-sharing role in the version that turned that joy into an internet earworm.
How it spread
The official song became a TikTok sound, a snack-time refrain, and a remix prompt across short-form video. Unlike the usual “kid says something funny” extraction pipeline, the version that traveled most widely visibly credited the interview, its host, and Tariq.
