What happened
Images, text, and recurring characters crash together in time with a Japanese pop song. The point is not a plot; it is the escalating collision of misheard lyrics, crude visual effects, and references arriving before the previous gag can settle.
Where it came from
Neil Cicierega, posting as Trapezoid, uploaded Hyakugojyuuichi!! to Newgrounds on May 22, 2001. His creator note identifies it as an animation from Animutation.com.
Why it mattered
Hyakugojyuuichi!! made deliberate visual overload into a comedy format. It showed that an amateur Flash file could invent its own vocabulary—speed, repetition, and total non sequitur—and give other creators a template to push further.
How it spread
The creator-uploaded Newgrounds version accumulated more than 600,000 views and gave the emerging animutation scene a durable reference point. Its low-fi, rhythm-first collage grammar traveled through Flash portals and fan-made follow-ups.
