Grimace Shake Incident
Happy birthday, Grimace. Then: purple milkshake, fake horror, hard cut.
The original is off-site. HAHrchives preserves the story and a route back to it.
What happened
The format stayed simple: wish Grimace a happy birthday, take a sip, then cut to an absurdly staged scene of purple aftermath. Creators made the basic premise darker, stranger, and more cinematic.
Where it came from
After McDonald’s released the Grimace Shake for the character’s birthday, TikTok creator Austin Frazier posted a June 2023 fake-horror sketch after trying it.
Why it mattered
The Grimace Shake Incident is a distinctly platform-native mutation: a brand launch became a participatory horror prompt because users found a more interesting story hiding inside the product.
How it spread
The clips multiplied across TikTok and gathered millions of views. Even McDonald’s acknowledged the trend while the format escaped the original promotion that accidentally enabled it.
