Where it came from
Joshua Holz filmed short Snapchat clips of his Riverside, California classmate Daniel Lara, then compiled them into the “Damn Daniel” video posted to Twitter on February 15, 2016. The creator-hosted YouTube upload followed on February 21.
Why it mattered
Damn Daniel captured a mobile-video transition point: informal Snapchat footage became a broad catchphrase because its rhythm was short, specific, and easy for anyone to imitate.
