2024 / Video / Creator-made YouTube Short and self-aware catchphrase comedy
Chika Waga
“Is this the first meme of 2024?” A short sibling sketch attempted to create a meme and found an audience.
The original is hosted off-site; this page provides context and a link to it.
What was this?
The short treats its own attempted virality as the joke: a simple pratfall, a solemn declaration, and a phrase repeated with complete confidence.
Why it spread
The creator upload accumulated more than 19 million views in its first six months. Reposts and edits carried it through Reddit, X, and short-form meme communities, where “Chika Waga” became both a catchphrase and an ironic benchmark for deliberately low-stakes meme comedy.

Where it came from
The BolingBros uploaded their original YouTube Short, “The First Meme Of 2024!!!,” on January 7, 2024. In the scripted sibling sketch, one brother asks whether viewers are seeing the year’s first meme as another falls beside him, prompting the nonsense refrain “Chika Waga.”
Why it mattered
Chika Waga documents a 2024 creator-made short that explicitly sought meme status and became widely circulated through that premise.
