What happened
Roach’s original was deliberately simple: a handheld clip, a chant-like hook, and the kind of joke you make while stuck inside. People lip-synced it, danced to it, and repeated the line until it became a compact soundtrack for lockdown boredom.
Where it came from
Detroit rapper Curtis Roach posted a tiny “Bored in the House” song on TikTok in March 2020, just as stay-at-home orders began turning an ordinary complaint into a shared global condition.
Why it mattered
Bored in the House caught a very specific early-pandemic feeling without trying to explain it. It was a scrappy, funny refrain made by the person actually feeling it, then amplified because everyone else was too.
How it spread
The sound rapidly crossed TikTok, bringing in posts from musicians and celebrities. Tyga contacted Roach, who re-recorded the hook for an official collaboration—an unusually direct line from a bedroom-sized social post to a released song.
