Bongo Cat
A two-frame cat-like blob slapped the table, acquired bongos, and learned every instrument on the internet.

What happened
The tiny animation became a blank musical performer. Remixers gave it guitars, keyboards, drums, full bands, and songs from every corner of the web, each edit making the same deadpan paws feel newly committed.
Where it came from
Artist StrayRogue posted a simple animation of their cat-like character smacking a table in May 2018. Creator DitzyFlama replied with bongos and a Super Mario World tune, making the version people came to call Bongo Cat.
Why it mattered
Bongo Cat is a cheerful little lesson in collaborative internet making: one artist’s character and another creator’s joke became a format that rewarded people for adding craft instead of simply copying a punchline.
How it spread
The format moved from Twitter through YouTube and animation communities, where increasingly elaborate musical arrangements kept arriving. A creator-crediting interactive site later preserved the basic bongo instrument.
