One postgame “bing bong” turned a subway-door sound into New York’s loudest one-word victory speech.

What happened
The Sidetalk episode was already full of ecstatic, barely coherent Knicks fandom. Bloom’s one-second sound effect landed between the shouting as the tiny, absurdly repeatable center of it all—a local transit noise suddenly promoted to rallying cry.
Where it came from
After the Knicks’ October 2021 season-opening win, the creator-run street-interview series Sidetalk filmed fans outside Madison Square Garden. Jordie Bloom leaned into the microphone and recreated the show’s subway-door sound: “Bing bong.”
Why it mattered
Bing Bong is the kind of accidental phrase internet culture loves best: specific enough to belong somewhere, silly enough to travel anywhere, and preserved by the people who actually filmed the night it happened.
How it spread
The official clip traveled through basketball posts, reaction videos, arena graphics, Halloween costumes, headlines, and people yelling the phrase at one another. It started as a joyous New York in-joke but spread because “bing bong” needed no explanation to feel good in a crowd.
