What happened

A cheerful factory worker sings about the joys of a giant discount store until its bargain economy costs him his job.

Where it came from

JibJab released Big Box Mart on October 13, 2005, after a world premiere on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and a JibJab.com/MSN Video launch.

Why it mattered

It turned big-box retail anxiety into a catchy Flash-era musical that was polished enough to distribute widely and weird enough to forward.

How it spread

The polished cartoon moved between JibJab, MSN Video, shared links, and television as web comedy began crossing into broadcast.
